On February 5th, for the first time ever, Canada’s literati and book lovers gathered in the stacks of the Toronto Reference Library to celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Book Lover’s Ball presented by TD Bank Group.
The evening was a resounding success, raising over $560,000 in support of groundbreaking programs and services, exceptional book collections and innovative community spaces at Toronto Public Library. In anticipation of the Library’s soon-to-be 100 branches, guests were invited to adopt their favourite branch or bid on exclusive auction items.
Over 800 guests explored the branch after hours, making it the largest party ever held in the Library. An evening unlike any other, the Ball invited guests to clink glasses and dine amongst the books with top authors including Conrad Black, Elizabeth Renzetti, Joseph Boyden, Jamie Kennedy and Maureen Jennings.
The Book Lover’s Ball extended the night with After Dark, the official after party. Party goers indulged in canapés and cocktails, tested their smarts playing speed Scrabble against their favourite authors, posed for literary portraits and snapped photos with literary greats like Sherlock and Hook. The evening featured live entertainment curated by Jason Collett, with special guest Michael Winter and Joseph Boyden who rocked the mic with Oldies 990 and culminated with DJ Odario, spinning tunes till the early hours of the morning.
