The vision of the Toronto Public Library Foundation is to build a city of life-long readers, learners and creators for a successful Toronto. This is accomplished by inspiring giving in support of exemplary collections, ground-breaking programs and services, and innovative community spaces at Toronto Public Library.

Since its inception in 1997, the Toronto Public Library Foundation has raised over $100 million thanks to generous donors. Now more than ever, the Library needs donors to help ensure that the nearly 70% of Torontonians who use the Library have access to essential resources, programs, services and spaces that help support a resilient city.

Toronto Public Library has benefited from the generosity of donors who have recognized how a strong public library makes our city economically stronger and socially resilient. Innovative partnerships established by the Foundation include the TD Summer Reading Club – that has grown from a local to a national initiative and the Sun Life Musical Instrument Lending Library – where library users can borrow an instrument for free with a valid library card, and the Museum + Arts (MAP) Program, presented by the Bennett Family Foundation which has enabled thousands of families to explore the best of Toronto’s arts and cultural treasures for free. Signature legacy gifts – like that from long-time library-lovers Sophia Lucyk and Norman Hinton – provide enhanced funding to support such priorities as the development of early literacy, creativity, and writing skills in young children and financial literacy skills and small business support.
